The BBC have commissioned Speakit Films to make a film following the first ever staging of Benjamin Britten’s choral masterpiece, War Requiem, as part of the broadcaster’s Classical Century season.
In War Requiem, Benjamin Britten juxtaposes the anti-war poetry of Wilfred Owen with the timeless ritual of the Latin Requiem Mass. The result is a passionate outcry against man’s inhumanity to man.
The documentary, directed by Tanya Stephan, will follow the Turner Prize-winning artist and designer Wolfgang Tillmans, and the ENO’s team as they bring this masterpiece to the stage.
