SPEAKIT FILMS, the London-based production company is seeking a film producer to develop and build the company’s slate of films, and become a key partner to help shape the future direction of the company.
The company’s most notable films to date include the award-winning Sundance-hit ‘Black Gold’, and the BBC/ARTE co-production ‘When China Met Africa’. Speakit’s latest film, ‘Walk With Me’, about Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, is narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch and is due for theatrical release in 2017.
Speakit is now entering an exciting new phase and has received investment to increase its output of documentaries and develop fiction films and episodic stories.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in producing fiction and non-fiction films, and a passion for telling stories that move hearts and minds.
You will have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, a command on new financing models and distribution platforms and you will take risks, innovate, and support film directors to find their voice and be true to their creativity. You might also have your own ideas that you’d wish to contribute towards Speakit’s existing slate of films.
A proven track record in producing and financing feature films, documentaries, and/or episodic series in the UK and internationally.
Extensive experience in identifying, optioning, securing and negotiating rights to subjects and published works, and managing and exploiting IP.
Ability to cultivate new relationships and leverage existing ones to raise finance from multiple sources including; film funders, foundations, broadcasters, distributors (pre-sales), SVOD platforms, and film financiers/investors.
Excellent command of budgeting, cashflow, film finance strategy and handling a slate of projects
Track record in hiring top talent and good people management skills
A natural flair for writing and pitching ideas.
Strong and demonstrable negotiation skills and sound business acumen.
Developing Speakit’s film slate; cultivating ideas, finding writers and packaging projects
Pitching projects directly to commissioners and film funders
Setting up co-productions and securing commissions, equity finance, soft money, pre-sale deals, and film funding from the US, UK and internationally
Managing budgets and cashflow across multiple projects at different stages of production
Principally responsible for negotiating, and reviewing legal documentation and liaising with lawyers on production contracts
Optioning rights, securing access to difficult stories, rights exploitation and management
Navigate sales, distribution, and marketing arenas with a command on new distribution platforms
Hiring and managing production and post-production crew
Casting, producing and overseeing powerful taster tapes when necessary
Offer strategic and operational expertise to the direction of the company, and evolve our business plan to be a sustainable and viable film company.
